Treatment For Pain after Dental Visit

Most people who suffer from pain in their jaw joint or in the muscles around it just put up with it or take pain killers because they are unaware that it can be treated. However, there is a particular focus within osteopathy that deals with the facial bones and with any pain caused by these bones. All our osteopaths are trained in these techniques and frequently treat patients who have jaw pain with these gentle methods of treatment.

The techniques are gentle yet very effective and include very gentle techniques within the mouth which are used to release the muscles and ligaments of the jaw. Techniques also target the maxilla (jaw) and the way that it joins with the temporal (ear bone). These two bones form the jaw joint, which medically is known as the Temporal Mandibular Joint.

Pain the Day After Dental Work

Most dental pain will resolve after 24 hours and is part of the natural healing process. However if it lasts longer than 48 hours then it is worth getting treatment, this is particularly true if you are experiencing neck pain or headaches. These can occur because of the forces applied during some dental procedures and due to the fact you have your mouth open and this tightens the neck joints and muscles.

Of course you probably tense up when you are lying there and that's even before the dental work starts, this certainly won't help your neck, so if you can relax, and then every minute check yourselve again and relax again as you will undoubtedly have tightened up again! I thought DVD's above you for you to watch while the dentist was working were gimmicks - then I tried it - awesome! It really does help you relax and the time passes much faster.

Jaw Clicking

Often we can resolve jaw clicking - not always however as clicking is sometimes due to a complex interplay of muscles and joints and it is complicated by previous dental work. After one treatment you will be able to tell whether the clicking has changed and whether to continue with treatment.
