Pelvis and Tailbone (Coccyx) Problems

pelvis pain

The pelvis and tailbone (sacrum and coccyx) are in use whether you are walking, standing or sitting so a problem with them can not only be painful but can also restrict you from daily activities or keep you off work.

It is an area that takes the whole load of the spine & if it's "out" it can cause pain in your upper back and neck and even cause headaches.

The location of the bladder, bowels & uterus within the pelvic bowl means a pelvic problem can contribute to irritable bowel, constipation,  urinary track infections and menstrual issues.Often treatment of the pelvis will clear these issues.

Visceral osteopathy is a style of treatment that osteopaths use to treat the ligaments that attach the bowels, bladder and other organs to the pelvis and back wall of the body. This is a gentle treatment, with non invasive techniques that when combined with other pelvic techniques such as a gentle sacral release (seen above) and muscle releases can really help relieve pelvic pain.

We have used this style of treatment frequently and helped many patients with sacral pain, coccygenia (coccyx pain), groin strains, pubis pain and Osteitis Pubis. We also have helped patients recover after sacral and coocyx fractures.

Pelvic and pubic pain during pregnancy and after birth is also an area we focus on - please see the Pregnancy Page (link opposite for more details).

For pelvic floor weakness, prolapse and urinary incontinence, osteopathic treatment combined with targeted Clinical Pilates rehabilitation is an excellent way to reclaim your health and strength.
